Can a man marry the sister of his devorced wife, just after devorce? Can you please answer the question in the light of Islam and Sharia.

Answer:In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh
It is permissible to marry ones wife’s sister after divorcing his wife and after the completion of her iddat of divorce. It is not permissible to marry the divorced wife’s sister immediately after divorcing her during the iddat. It should also be noted that one of the reasons for the prohibition of marrying two sisters at once is that it leads to animosity and severing family ties between the sisters. While one may marry his wife’s sister after the iddat, he should strongly consider the spirit of Shariah in avoiding a situation of breaking family ties.
