A terrorist attack on Danish soil is right now being planned, on direct orders from al-Qaeda’s leadership, reveals Jakob Scharf, the head of PET, the Danish National Security Service
According to Scharf al-Qaeda as a strong wish to carry out an attack in Denmark.
He says that there are even now several ongoing operations. “We see people and networks in Denmark which constitute a concrete threat, and which have the will and means to carry out an attack.”
According to PET, youth of Danish background had been to terrorist training on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The terror preparations are directed and planned by al-Qaeda.
To the question whether those people are only ‘thinking’ of a terror attack, Scharf answers: No, these people and networks consitute a concrete threat which we’re right now working at PET to counter.”
According to PET the possible terrorirst of Muslim background today are more ‘professional’:
“They are more capable, more goal oriented, and better trained,” says Scharf and reveals that Danes are being trained in al-Qaeda camps in the mountains between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Scharf says that this is certainly a development. In the Glostrup and Odense terrorism cases they dealt with loose networks, who got an idea about committing terrorism and were inspired by the internet. Now PET sees – also in cases which are not made public – a directed leadership, training, and planning of a terrorist attack on Danish soil, carried out at the al-Qaeda level.
Scharf adds that the latest terrorism case, where to youth from Glasvej (Copenhagen) were suspected of wanting to carry out an attack was “clearly an expression that al-Qaeda had regained its footing and can train terrorists, carry out operative planning and assign targets.”
According to PET, the terror attack against the Danish embassy in Pakistan was also controlled by al-Qaed a’s leadership.
“There has been – and is – a strong wish for al-Qaeda to hit Denmark and Danish interests”.
This is because Denmark was become ‘recognized’ after the Muhmmad cartoons and al-Qaeda can be understood for conducting terrorism against a country accuses of insulting Muhammad.

Meanwhile, the Danish branch of Hizb ut-Tahrir claims that the embassy attack was carried out by the US. [ed. al-Qaeda had already announced it was responsible]
The analysis, written by Taimullah Abu-Laban, the son of imam Abu-Laban, says that the US wanted the Pakistani government to break off its peace talks with the Pakistani branch of the Taliban, Tehrek-e-Taleban.
“The Danish embassy is an obvious way for the USA, when an attack against the embassy clearly turns suspicion against the Muslims in Pakistan, since Denmark has gotten itself recognized in the Muslim world for its anti-Islamic foreign politics and attack against the Muslims’ prophet,” says the analysis according to Jyllands -Posten.
