Couple jailed for having illicit links
12 July, 2008 Gulf News By Nour Abuzant
AN INDIAN man and a Pakistani woman were both sentenced to three years in jail after being found guilty of having an illicit relationship.
The couple was found out after the 21-year-old woman – an engaged Muslim – suffered heavy bleeding and went to hospital with her mother.
She later claimed she had been raped by the 41-year-old Indian, who was her boss at work.
Asked to explain why she had told police that the two had been having a love affair, she said the confession had been dictated to her by the interrogating officers – a claim that the court dismissed.

Presiding Judge Salah al-Sharif added that had the woman not been forced to seek medical help, her relations with the man would have no doubt been kept secret. The court imposed a three-year penalty because her lover was a Christian, meaning there was no chance of the pair ever marrying unless he converted to Islam.
