DOHA • Charity organisations have already started announcing plans for Ramadan, with about a month to go for the month of fasting to begin.

The Zakat Fund has announced it will host Iftar for 13,000 people every day at various locations in Qatar. Al Jesra Mosque will host the highest number of people, according to Mohammed Al Judae, Director of Iftar Programmes at the Zakat Fund.

Last year, the organisation held Iftar at 18 locations. This year, more mosques and other public places will host Iftar to cope with an increased number of people. The Zakat fund plans to enhance the services by improving the quality and increasing the quantity of food to be served.

It has announced tenders for catering companies willing to take up the task of providing for Iftar. The companies will be selected based on quality and a team of supervisors has been appointed to look into the finer points.

Meanwhile, the fund recently organised a two-day workshop for Zakat collectors. The trainees were instructed on accounting, administration and Shariah principles related to the job.

Special emphasis was placed on hospitality, Zakat calculation and the use of modern technology. Experts in finance and Shariah Law led the training.
