The University of California’s top academic officer, who announced his resignation in June, is taking a job in the Middle East.

UC announced today that Wyatt “Rory” Hume is set to start as provost of the United Arab Emirates University on Sept. 1. The school has nearly 15,000 students.

The 66-year-old Hume became a high-profile figure within the 10-campus UC system last year after he essentially assumed the role of acting president after the resignation of Robert Dynes.
