Bombings Rock Algeria Before Ramadan

At least 54 people have been killed and scores wounded in a series of attacks targeting Algeria before the advent of Ramadan. (Reuters)

ALGIERS — A series of bombings rocked Algeria over the past 24 hours killing at least 44 people and wounding scores ten days before the holy fasting month of Ramadan, ending a roughly six-month period of relative calm.One bomb targeted a bus parked near a hotel in the town of Bouira, some 120 kilometers southeast of Algiers, while the bomb went off near the military headquarters.

The attacks killed at least 11 people and wounded more than 31 others, the Interior Ministry said in a statement cited by the Algerian press agency.
