An experimental liberal mosque in the Netherlands that held prayers in Dutch rather than Arabic, has closed because of financial woes.
The Polder Mosque in Amsterdam was an effort to provide a model for young Dutch-born Muslims and converts to learn about Islam and practice it in a secular European nation.
The mosque’s total debts are $270,000, but it declined offers of funding from foreign sponsors, saying that violated its founding principles.
No doubt that foreign funding would have come with strings attached…it always does…
