Malaysia is doubtless a center of Shariah Compliant Finance, certainly the leader in Asia and the Pacific Rim. One of Malaysia’s largest Shariah banks is Maybank Islamic. Maybank Islamic is making moves to become a global force for Shariah. They are setting up shop in neighboring Singapore and Indonesia, but also have their sights set on targets elsewhere in the Orient, including nations with small minorities of Muslims.
This is an indicator of Shariah Finance as dawah, or missionary work…something Malaysia’s finance minister has flatly stated in the past.
