The Shariah-Compliant Finance industry is interested in tapping Middle Eastern oil money to help fund Thai infrastructure projects, which could help it gain a foothold in a market with only a small Muslim population. The way appears to have been cleared for the issuance of a sukuk in Thailand with only one more major hurdle to clear in the next few months. This is when tax regulations are finally put into place that would grant sukuk preferential tax treatment.
