Sharjah Islamic Bank Donates Millions to Zakat in UAE

Sharjah Islamic Bank (SIB) has donated AED 5 million to the Abu Dhabi Zakat Fund.
While there is no published evidence that the Abu Dhabi Zakat Fund supports Jihadist terrorism, there are two facts which make the combination of Shariah-Compliant Finance and zakat particularly worrisome in this case:
1. Shariah law lists “those fighting for allah” as one of eight categories of recipients of zakat.
2. There is a great deal of evidence that the UAE royal family has close ties to Al Qaeda. This evidence includes testimony by then-CIA director George Tenet before the 9/11 Commission in the United States.
